Biography

Lenie van Rossem is fascinated by how early life can influence health from infancy to adulthood. Therefore, her research for the past years has focused on the question how early life factors (i.e. infant nutrition, air pollution exposure during pregnancy, socio-economic status) can influence the development of cardiovascular health (overweight, blood pressure). Performing these studies has led to new research questions: unravelling how breastfeeding can contribute to cardiovascular health throughout life. Two innovative elements in her research are the measurements of different breastfeeding components and the early measurements of cardiovascular health by a non-invasive ultrasound. With her research, she aims to contribute to public health by decreasing cardiovascular risk in the earliest stages of life, and by methods that are accessible and feasible for the population.
